Summer House

Today’s most-read news story on BBC: “RAF Typhoon jets arrive in London to test Olympic security.” Great, lets publicise on a renowned British news website that the ‘high-security’ planes are here….The article goes on to tell the public where the planes are based (RAF Northolt), technical specifications about the plane (1,370 miles per hour) , what dates the trial will be running and the area of the trial. So what was the aim of this article? Lets reveal to the public our plan of security to frighten them? No, it will just tell terrorists/the British public how the sky is going to be patrolled. So they will be reading this article thinking plane attacks are so cliché plus I don’t want to get on the wrong side of one of those jets! Is there really a need to publicises articles about British security at the games. The less people know the better in my opinion. Look what happened when the British army released a video of how great they are?

This gave Osama Bin Laden hope that he had at least a good few years before he got caught.

In light with the news on the Typhoon jets, I have decided to share a song by Typhoon. Typhoon area great Indie band from America. Typhoon has taken the term band to new extremes and are referred to as an indie-folk orchestra. I came across them on a live session on NPR music and instantly fell in love with the vast range of instruments, coming together with a chilled calm composed voice of their lead singer. Discoveries of bands like Typhoon justifies the creation of this blog because this is definitely an undiscovered talent I stumbled upon by mistake. They have a few singles out but if you search them make sure you don’t get them confused with the Dutch rapper typhoon, unless you are into that genre. Today’s song is called Summer House and is about leaving a house with childhood memories; a story/song that everyone can relate to.

Paper Aeroplane

There are many good things to come out of Australia: Rolf Harris, Shane Warne, Steve Irwin. We look at these people as foreign alienated people from down under but forget they are just descendants from the badly behaved Brits. Back in the 1700s they had a strange concept of jail: let’s stick you on a deserted Island where it is hot for 8 months and you sit on the beach, and we will go back to England to the constant light drizzle and grey clouds. Definitely the greatest thing to come out of Australia is this video, created by a news channel where they go to the USA and reveal to the world what idiots Americans are.

Angus and Julia Stone are amongst some of the best things Australia has to offer the world. The brother/sister combination of chilled mellow music brings a different sound to most music in their category. Even though they are both pursuing individual careers, they won’t be as great as they are as a duo. Their parents need to sit them down and make them get back together (in the term of band and not anything else!). The song today is called Paper Aeroplane and has a great drum riff, which you will be mimicking over and over again on your desk once heard. Enjoy.

The Reckoning

David Cameron, in a desperate attempt to raise his party's popularity following the use of his parties invisible hand to push the UK back into recession, has attempted to emulate Obama's 'slow jammed' news. To avoid (further) tarnishing to his reputation as an extremely average prime minster, he sent his right hand man, Nicholas ' I call myself Nick to appeal to the alternative people' Clegg, to express to the youth of Britain that the coalition still has faith in them and is looking after their future.

The light was in Nick Clegg as half the NEET's (not in education, employment and training) tuned into the BBC news at six to see how the coalition were attempting to provide them with a new hope of life. The other half were out on the street breaking into houses and throwing bricks at oncoming traffic. He started off the interview really well using long sophisticated words such as 'because' but then couldn't resist taking a dig at the NEET's and blew the interview. How you ask? And I quote "every 18 - 24 year old C*nt in this country, who is out of work will have he opportunity to learn and earn." If you dont believe me then click on this link. No wonder David Cameroon once referred to him as his favourite political joke.

Today's song comes from an Israeli singer named Asaf Avidan. Asaf's growth in fame is positively   correlated to the growth of the card game Yaniv. He has a distinct voice which is similar to the female lead singer in Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. He usually travels with his band the Mojo's and has opened for various artists including Ben Howard. Asaf has been described as the new Bob Dylan!/? and I was once described as the new Glen McGrath (but then my coach realised I was Jewish and wasn't goring to grow past 5'10). His music varies from soft acoustic guitar to sixties rock. The song is called 'the reckoning song' which is also the name of his top selling album, check it out.

Seed 2.0

Only in America would a President go on TV and collaborate with the lead singer of The Roots to send a message to the students of America that he is looking out for their welfare!!! If you don’t know what I am talking about either you have not managed to procrastinate productively or you have been hidden from the internet for the past two days.  This just would not happen in England; David Cameron singing with Westlife on Loose Women, would be nowhere near be as cool, or gain as much political support. Sir Robert Peel, founder of the Conservative as we know it,  would be rolling in his grave if Cameron would dare juxtapose his political obligations with this pandering to the needs of the lower classes. I think it would have been more of a Gordon 'I am working class I am' Brown.

Today’s song is going to come from The Roots. They are one of those bands that have been around for ages, adjusting their style to stay with ‘what’s hip’ but managing to avoid being played by the DJ at Moshe Goldstein’s Bar mitzvah.  The band started off in the backstreets of Philadelphia, the home of hip hop as claimed by the Fresh-Prince. Over the years the band has chopped and changed and have included beat boxer Rahzel, the guy who can Rap and sing ‘at the same time,’ and Scott Storch who is responsible for AKON and other such nebachs.

The song is Called Seed 2.0 and is a mixture of rock, hip-hop and soul which will tastefully delight your musical pallet and is instantly likeable, enjoy.

I hope this post  provided you with an adequate procrastination material .

Something good can work

Thankfully the rain today has taken the UK out of drought, but didn’t stop us from going back into recession . With it raining ferociously it has been great motivation to attempt to work, as I would rather be inside than out , however it still makes work extremely boring. Today’s song is a bright and cheerful song which will hopefully brighten up the rest of your day/evening, reminding us that the sun will make an appearance soon and say hello.

Today’s song is by Two Door Cinema Club, a young band from Northern Ireland. They got their name from one of the band members mispronouncing the name of their local cinema ‘The Tudor Cinema’ (they must have been pretty stuck for a band name if that was their logic). Their music is just as good as any indie, ruffled hair, checked shirt with the top button done up boy band, however they haven’t really taken off in the UK as they have done across Europe. Their sound is very similar to Bombay Bicycle Club, The Kooks and The Fratellis, so if those you enjoy this type of sound you will enjoy their music.

The song I have chosen is somewhat different to their usual sound of electric guitar. The song is that type of song that you hear and think of summer. It was filmed by Watch Listen Tell (a highly recommend YouTube channel, if you plan on wasting a good 20 minutes listening music filmed in different park across London). The song is called ‘something good can work’ Enjoy!

I hope today’s endeavour which will ameliorate your days travails and bode well for your evening frivolities.

Black and Blue

Knowing that the room that I am sitting in contains 843 books on economic history means that my procrastination has reached a whole new level. Instead of trying to learn the dates and names of the authors I have decided to share another song.

Today’s song is by Miike Snow, but back in his indie-folk days before he teamed up with the Swedish electro producers. This song climbed to no.65 in the UK charts at its peak back in 2009. I have uploaded the video as it is a rather cool video  to watch, and will provide you with an extra few minutes of procrastination (which clearly you are doing now as otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this). Miike Snow in on the verge of selling his soul to the Now Brand of CD’s which will be played in the background at my brother’s 10th birthday party.

There are still some elements of the original indie-folk genre mixed in with computer produced beats  in his new music. There have been many remixes of the song posted around other blogs, Soundcloud and Youtube, but none will ever rival the original. I can imagine this song being great as an alarm, giving you a calm but upbeat vibe to your day.  The song is called ‘Black and Blue.’ Enjoy.

Thank you for reading and please stay tuned for the next bout of procrastination fodder.

Intro - EP

After a long search for new procrastination methods, I have decided to start a blog. This blog has no intention to ramble about my boring life of constant revision from 8am till 8pm, or tell meaningless, irrelevant stories about the blue piece of sweet corn I found in my 12 inch tuna sub. This blog is purely to entertain you on the subject of music, providing you a break from your equally mundane routines.

When it comes to music, everyone believes that they have the best taste. I am not about to gloat about my exceptional taste in music (my shower singing may cause my housemates to dispute this ), but rather share music that I think people will enjoy stumbling upon as they procrastinate on YouTube. The music will be a mixture of old, current and upcoming bands which you may or may not have heard of.

One thing for certain is that there will be no ‘Now 82’, ‘Top of the Pops’, or four-chord repetition bullshit that make up mainstream music today (preferred that sentence). I will follow a theme of acoustic sounds from talented musicians, and other artists who have neither sold their soul to mainstream nor become victims of auto-tune.

Today, while browsing YouTube out of sheer boredom, I ‘stumbled upon’ (I promise it’s the last time I will use the phrase) an old favourite of mine: ‘White Winter Hymnal’ by Fleet Foxes. To contrary belief, (which I was surprised to find out) the Fleet Foxes are not from Leicester. For those who have never heard of the Fleet Foxes, their music is very relaxed, with a chilled indie-folk feel to it, very similar to ‘Bon Iver’, ‘Grizzly Bear’ and ‘Iron and Wine’. Make sure you check out these artists.

My constant studying means that this blog will be regularly updated, so keep reading for new tracks. Sorry, I said I wasn’t going to mention revision. Enjoy
